CONTROVERSIAL claims that mistakes made in the Shirley McKie fingerprint case were covered up so they would not affect the Lockerbie bombing prosecution are to be investigated in a judicial inquiry, it was reported yesterday.
The inquiry is expected to address questions about the affair, including the suspicions of US fingerprint experts that an initial mistake was covered up so as not to knock confidence in the Scottish system as the Lockerbie trial progressed.

The c
laims come as Libyan Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, the man convicted of the bombing of PanAm Flight 103, which exploded over Lockerbie killing 270 people, awaits a Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (SCCRC) report, which may recommend his appeal is heard.

SNP MSP Alex Neil said: "The thrust of this isn't to answer the question of whether Shirley McKie is guilty or not - we've already got the answers to that.

"But a lot of questions remain. Was the failure to admit the fingerprint mistake early on because it would have unravelled the Lockerbie case?"

Last year Ms McKie was cleared of perjury and awarded £750,000 in compensation.

Her father, Iain McKie, added: "This case brings in Lockerbie, and that needs to be looked at."

A Scottish Executive spokesman said: "We are committed to establishing an inquiry. Its remit will be announced soon."

SCCRC are not the best at investigating Miscarriages it would seem according to this case.
http://williambeck.blogspot.com/
Who also claims SCCRC never investigated his case fully because the same QC sat on their board that represented Megrahi.

Will any such Enquiry include Cases like the above.

Re, Alex Neil's Comment
Common sense at last, She was vindicated at trial And should not be tried again.
It is obvious that this case was held back till after the Lockerbie Trial, Even Stevie Wonder can see this.
This Enquiry Remit should also be looking at not just the Two Mentioned cases but all cases of Injustice.
There was a case known as the Edinburgh Three, I I hope Mike Pringle will raise this case as he was an ardent Supporter, he must raise this with Alex Salmond and Mr MacAskill and certainly before any Enquiry Remit

It's the cover-up that gets them in the long run.

Anyone wanting the truth about Lockerbie - the biggest cover-up in history - should try to get the Private Eye special "The Flight from Justice." And why is Megrahi in jail when the equally guilty captain of the USS Vincennes who deliberately shot down a civilian airliner full of passengers is not? This crime may have provoked the Lockerbie bombing but went unpunished.

#4, BK, the VINCENNES fired at that Airbus by mistake (thinking it was an Iranian Air Force jet - having detected elecronic transmissions from such and aircraft earlier) - an understandable error, not a crime - unless you elect to see it that way.

What understandable error are you suggesting those who bombed Pan-Am 103 may have made?

What will happen if the inquiry reveals that it was her fingerprint? Everybody seems to be assuming that she in the clear. It is possible that this is not the case.

#The Man Who Knows
Shirley McKie has already been tried for this fiasco so on this presumption we proceed.
Is it possible the print could turn out to be hers and, All these people sacked, All this compo Paid Out, and even the resignation of Boyd, I for one do not think this possibility is possible.
As with most cases today, Iain McKie is waiting for the disclosure of 1200 documents Why is this possible when Crown Disclosure under Holland and Sinclair demand this be done.
The following is worth a view on disclosure.

JIAF, I respect your opinion but what will happen if the inquiry reveals that it was her fingerprint? This is still a real possibility.

Patrick i really dont think this has been thought about but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion.
The MaCkay report was the one that suggested there was criminality within SCRO so he will be best suited to answer why he thought this eh?
Was it his opinion that the SCRO had lied and instead of coming clean decided to continue to lie to cover up their mistakes. I await the Judicial Review with anticipation.
For anyone fighting disclosure with Crown Office they should read Amnesty Intenationals Guidelines linked.
I will re-iterate my opinion again: Guilty= No Compo
Guilty=No Members Of SCRO Sacked.
Guilty= No Boyd Resignation
Guilty= Vindicated by Trial
My opinion= She was framed
