The Unions are fighting a battle they cannot and will not win.
Final salary pensions are a thing of the past, put simply they are un-affordable.
Those fortunate enough to to be presently in such a scheme should consider thenselves priveleged.
This is the era of modernisation, the Civil Service Pensions and retirement age will be brought back to the table sooner or later, this millstone round the neck of the taxpayer just gets bigger and bigger and it has to stop.
Either that or the personal contributions are increased substantially.
Can't have it both ways.

Whether the unions win or lose this particular battle, interested observers will gather that the workers v employers scene is becoming rather more hectic lately and will continue to do so. This year has seen a marked rise in disputes as workers, especially in the public sector, as the govt tries to pay for foreign wars and bankrolling northern rock through cuts in the public sector. In the meantime it is estimated that financial sector workers in the city of London will reap £7.2 million in bonuses between them. Who says the banks are having a hard time? The airlines are also announcing record mass profits so why cant we afford decent pensions? Greed thats why.
