THE family of a missing 21-year-old and police yesterday denied there was anything suspicious about his disappearance.
Simon MacMillan, a merchant navy cadet, vanished on South Uist on Boxing Day. His father, Angus MacMillan, said: " This is a missing person inquiry to find Simon.

The massive support the community, and Simon's friends, have shown, bear witness to his good character and popularity."

Inspector Steve Black, who has been co-ordinating the search, described reports yesterday that Mr MacMillan was tied to a gravestone on Boxing Day by a drunken gang as "unhelpful and misleading".

He added: "There has been no evidence of any foul play."
