VISITOR numbers to Rosslyn Chapel are expected to drop this year as the hype surrounding Dan Brown's novel the Da Vinci Code dies down.
Bosses at the attraction have estimated that visitor numbers for 2007/08 could drop to 155,000 – down from 176,000 the previous year.

Month-on-month visitor figures at the attraction have also hinted that the annual number of people going to the chapel could drop by 20,000 per year as interest in the best-selling book and subsequent film wanes.

Chapel director Colin Glynn-Percy said: "We have a graph, which tracks numbers month-by-month for the last five years.

"If you look at it on a month-by-month basis, the trend is clear that the numbers are dropping."

Rosslyn Chapel is still a wonderfull place to visit. The carvings and building evoke a sence of wonder. All of this NOT due to Dan Brown's book.

I think these figures are false, if a million people bother to visit Stonehenge surely the figures for this "iconic" scotch tourist attraction must be greater!

No, the numbers are dropping because no one wants to pay the rediculous entrance fee. I went along a couple of weeks ago and ended up visiting Roslyn Castle instead - for free! Besides, the chapel is a shadow of its former self with all that rediculous scaffold around just so folk can walk around it high up - it does nothing to preserve the actual structure.

#1 Biker - it may well evoke a sence of wonder (whatever that is), but it sure doesn't evoke a sense of education.

#3 you have hit it right on the nail the ridiculous entrance charge and the eyesore scaffoldng is what is turning people off. Plus the movie is old news now.
