LOTHIANS Labour MSP George Foulkes has challenged First Minister Alex Salmond to go for a walk with him along Princes Street to test public opinion.
The move follows an exchange between the two political heavyweights in the Scottish Parliament last week.

Mr Foulkes wrote to Mr Salmond: "During First Minister's Questions on Thursday you clearly implied that I did not talk to my constituents. T
hat very morning I had spoken to dozens of them at a protest against your SNP-led council's decision to close half the city's crèche facilities.

"I also spoke to several constituents and community groups about the council's decision to slash primary school budgets by £10,000, secondary school budgets by £50,000 and to close 14 of the city's 18 nursery school kitchens.

"I attended a public meeting in Portobello where a hall full of people expressed their deep concern about your party's complete failure thus far to match Labour's school building programme 'brick for brick'. It strikes me, therefore, that it is perhaps your good self who is not 'listening' to the people."

But a spokesman for the First Minister said Mr Salmond frequently walked from St Andrew's House to Bute House.

"It always takes him ten times longer than it needs to because everyone wants to talk to him or have their picture taken with him," he said. "It's George Foulkes who needs to get out more and, indeed, take a hike."

"A spokesman for the First Minister said 'It's George Foulkes who needs to get out more and, indeed, take a hike.'"

What a mature and statesmanlike comment by this unnamed SNP 'spokesman'.

You can see why the rant-insult-rage SNP teenagers on these boards like the party so much.

I challenge Alex Salmond to take a walk along Rose Street or any other place where there are plenty of pubs, on a rainy evening in winter and listen to the views of smokers who have been forced to stand outside in the rain because of Herr Obersturmbahnfuerer McConnell's stupid ban.

G'afternoon Higland - how's Dolly?

The thought of George walking along any public highway should frighten a few grannies!

Hey Foulksey, you better leave the jowly jambo alone.

He'd dance rings around you any day.

labour really need to do something about the low quality of their politicians. Foulkes is just another example.

Well done Foulksy. Wee Eck Salmond's never going to be brave enough to take up your offer. He's still smarting from being booed off the Hampden pitch before the Scotand v Croatia game.

Errm... Let's see:-

"Labour MSP George Foulkes has challenged First Minister Alex Salmond to go for a walk with him along Princes Street to test public opinion"

No. It would be Alex Salmond.

There's no point trying to demonstrate anything to stupid labour. They are all brain dead.

#14 Alternative (High Octane) Fuel Head - what I meant was that it was a Labour law so shouldn't Foulkes be the one that gets it in the neck?

the snp will match labours building programme brick for brick,i hope not as labour did not pay for any of them, the taxpayer will spend the next 30 years paying of the massive debts,as private companies cream off 30 times the original costs of the buildings, the labour party onward with broon and wee wendy the bung ,into oblivion

Foulkes must think that he can claim expenses for walking in official time.

Shoe leather allowance? 50p a yard?

I think Alex should take him up on it. Of course the majority of people on Princes Street at this time of year will not be locals but what the heck.

In return Lord Foulkes should ask Gordon Brown to agree to take a walk with Alex Salmond through Peterhead.

If they do go for a walk along Princes Street I suggest they both take a pan and brush and sweep up some of the litter that fouls up our pricipal thoroughfare. At least then there would be a practical outcome to the exercise.

There's no pubs along the length of Princes St though, how would Fool-lkes survive?

I would tell George Foulkes to be careful about walking along any street in Britain. Last time he did this he was drunk in charge and assaulted a Police Officer.Being "in-the know" as a Labour politician he got off with a warning. He didn't do it deliberately!! Alex, if you take up the challenge make sure you carry a breathaliser kit to make sure Lord George isn't cheating! Sober, he is a pain in the "Erchie". Drunk, he's a liability.

Foulkes is a deluded idiot! Slavering jakie... Even Jambos are embarrassed by his presence at Tynie.

Like #39 says, Brit Nat Foulkes could try walking with the other Unionist bozos in the Orange Order and BNP. Great bedfellows.
