LONG before he appeared at the High Court in Glasgow accused of murdering eight people, Peter Manuel was known to police across the UK as a vicious, cold-hearted lawbreaker obsessed with guns.
Less than 20 years separated his first court appearance on 20 October 1938, where he was charged with breaking into a shop, and his execution at Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow, on Friday 11 July 1958.

I remember being told by a forensic psychiatrist at the time that he was glad Manuel had been hanged, because if he had not it would have put the case against capital punishment back for 30 years.

The first thing we have to do is abolish this awful Human rights act, if like these wee neds at balado at the weekend think they can get of scott free then think again, the two have left enough forensic evidence behind to proscecute so enjoy your freedom while it lasts, you better hope your innocent victim pulls through or it should be murder and 25years minimum.

There is no excuse, carry on with this type of softie approach and the system will fail no matter how many bloody incentives the polis bring in, knife amnesty and the like, its all rubbish, twenty lashes with the cat for carrying and then 6 months in a 10x8, you carry out this type of damage on another human being and your human rights are immediatly revocked.

If this had been a mad dog that attacked this guy it would be put down immediatly.

There is no difference, this scum carryed knives and they used them with the intention of murder, result the short drop end of problem and knive violence along with a lot of other problems such as paedophiles running rampant dries up overnight.

Yet there is some sinister force at work to protect these monsters and to mollycoddle them, like this nutter released last week who is now thought to be in France, a man who has a history of molesting little girls, cut his balls off then hang the b*stard.

why should the public have been forced to pay the nutters life long bill in a hospital for those dreadful crimes. he took many lifes. phycopath or not-hanging was the best soultion.

Curious, "...obsessed with guns." Other than the fact that he shot some of his victims, where does this phrase come from? In my review of the documents available on the National Archives of Scotland website --Feature: The Mind of a Killer - the Peter Manuel case-- I find no reference to guns.

Peter Manuel deserved execution for violating the human rights of at least seven innocent people and putting "A considerable section of the most thickly populated area of Scotland ... in a blind fear,..." Why and at what point do the human rights of the perpetrator trump the human rights of the victims?
