Published Date: 29 August 2008
REPUBLICAN presidential hopeful John McCain will name the youngest and first female governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, as his running mate today, US media reported.
In an election which will be about change, so-called "hockey mum" Ms Palin has a reputation for government reform and an approval rating higher than 80%.

The 44-year-old former runner-up of the 1984 Miss Alaska beauty pageant would be the second female vice-presidential nominee of a major party, following Geraldine Ferraro as Democratic nominee in 1984.
Senior campaign officials confirmed Mr McCain's decision to US media outlets, including CNN and Fox News.

Mr McCain, who will officially confirm his running mate at a rally in Ohio later today on his 72nd birthday, reportedly chose Ms Palin as his vice presidential nominee yesterday, but the decision has been shrouded in secrecy.

Speculation only moved to mother-of-five Ms Palin, who, like Mr McCain calls herself a maverick and was considered an outside bet, after airport officials confirmed a private plane flew from Alaska into Middletown Regional Airport in Butler County, near Cincinnati, Ohio, ahead of the official announcement in the state.

She is pro-life, a fiscal and social conservative and holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association.

Ms Palin also hunts, eats moose burgers, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, owns a float plane, according to US reports.

She rose to attention in Alaska after blowing the whistle on ethical violations by state Republican Party leaders and was elected in 2006 after beating the incumbent Republican governor in the primary and a former Democratic Alaskan governor in the general election.

Democratic nominee Barack Obama is making an aggressive play for the traditional Republican stronghold of Alaska and its three electoral votes, and polls show the race is close.

Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, former Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge, and Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman were among others thought to be considered for the job.

look at the picture of her on cover of Vogue magazine at this link.

She was a high-school basketball star where they called her Sarah Barracuda. She was a beauty queen, runner up in Miss Alaska contest. She got a degree in journalism. She worked as a sports broadcaster. she became a mayor of a town of 10,000 people. She became a state legislator. She accused others of corruption and became high-profile. She's been governor of Alaska for 1-1/2 years.

She's strongly pro-life and if she's McCain's running mate that means she's strongly pro-war as well.

The Democrats have the Magic Negro and the Republicans now have Wonder Woman.

McCain promised he'd select someone who could succeed him if he dies. He selected someone with no experience whatsoever in Washington. McCain turns 73 today.

#1- and don't you love it...The key to any presidency is the cabinet they choose, that is who they rely on to get things done and figure things out. This will be true for Obama as it was for Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, FDR, JFK, and all the others. As far as being Pro War, I find that any complaining about us in foreign war as a moral dilemma to be naive and hypocritical. I grew up in Northern California, the Bay Area, a Liberal bastion. The death rate amongst my friends in that school system by far outweighed our death rate in combat, even now. In fact, the amount of minority children we've lost to white liberal America's drug habit (and the conservative addicts too) outnumbers the men we've lost in combat in all wars from Vietnam forward. I hate war, but our children will have a higher survival rate in combat in Iraq than in our very Liberal schools. Just some facts on the true responsibilities of the commander-in-chief compared to popular thought.

Interesting choice. As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska and governor of the state for the past three years, she has already amassed more executive experience that Obama and Biden (career legislators) combined.I wonder how Sen. Clinton sees this development.

She still has more experience than Obama, who by the way made very rude comments. The man has NO class.
5

Sandi,

She's also very popular in Alaska, with approval ratings in the 80-90% range.

Her lack of Washington experience is a huge plus for McCain. How can Obama keep on talking about non-specific "change" when he's up against someone who has actually effected change in her state? She has fought corruption and won. She will be very popular with every one of the Republican voting groups.

John McCain picked a vice presidential candidate with as much experience as governor of the biggest state in the Union as Barak Obama has as junior senator from Illinois. The difference is that Obama is running for president. Palin for Vice President. They are entirely different jobs.

Its going to be interesting to see how this is greeted between now and the convention.

Byron in #2:

I think thats a great idea to stop illegal drugs in America. Here's a web-site of former DEA agent Cele Castillo.

http://www.powderburns.org/

He remembers back in the 1980's when he was in central America his job was to facilitate drug smuggling into the United States. He says that George HW Bush came to visit them and gave them a pep talk and as well acknowledged that they were purposely bringing drugs into the US.

If you think that the death rate due to US created wars is low, then perhaps you should consider that well over 1 million Iraqis have died due to the one we put in their country. We don't know how many Afghans have died due to that war, but we do know it includes 70, 80 or 90 civilians killed last week when the US got bad intelligence and bombed the wrong spot.

Our death toll among US military is also a lot higher than you think. As well there have been huge numbers of US soldiers wounded. I see them regularly without arms or legs. Many have brain damage from the explosions. Many have long-term emotional problems as a result of the war. You are insane to be pro-war.

Let me tell you something, Sarah Palin is similarly insane. She's a highly indoctrinated Republican who is completely out-of-touch with not only reality, but with any kind of decent morality at all.

Mercian,

This is a smart move by McCain who is up against with Obama's first-black-president tag making him look like he has done a deal with fate.

Hilary Clinton's supporters, many of whom haven't took to Obama, now have the choice of putting the first female vice-president in power instead. The fact she is relatively young and photogenic will really help McCain's campiagn too in this celebrity age.
9

Lynne,

Palm Beach Gardens 29/08/2008 18:07:23
Wally, you are debased and insane... the last two statements you make just goes to show you how low you are. She has more moral authority than you and your moronic conspiracy theories on every subject. What have you done to make life better for your Arizonians (if that is where you live). NOTHING. Just like a subhuman...you cricitize but you don't walk the walk. For once in your life Wally, Shut Up, and stop proving you are a moron.

Byron,

#8- I'm not pro-war. Read the post. And secondly, I am aware of the death of the Iraqi's, which is quit a bit lower than than 1 million. I just hate hypocrisy. How can we take the moral high ground through politics and war when by the same politics we allow a death rate amongst our children to eclipse the death rate in combat? This is a worthy question, especially when it is brought up continually by the Liberal Left that in my experience growing up, had a ton to do with those children getting killed. Under these school systems, we have a death rate that makes the Ku Klux Klan feel inadequate. We also have more minority children in jail from these areas (which are staffed by liberal politicians) than we had in the Jim Crow law days. Now these same people are deeply disturbed at the death of Iraqi's but not their own children? Would they be complaining if it wasn't a mumbling idiot who got elected instead of their candidate? If they cared about the death of innocent people, they would have dealt with it here first, not waited until they lost an election to a moron and all of the sudden we now have compassion. I hate war. I hate hypocrite politicians and their naive followers worse. War sucks, domestic Liberal politics swallows. As usual, the kids pay the highest toll. Ignore your political leanings and start demanding honesty.
11

Byron,

Belmont, CA 29/08/2008 18:21:55
#8-BTW, I know the death rate in Iraq for our guys is not as high as the political opponents want it to be, my nephew is their, and we talk a lot. I want him the heck outta there and warned him not to go, but at least my info is a bit better sourced.

I really like her successful stand against corruption.

I think this election just got interesting again.

#15.. there was a whole convention full of people ready to vote for Obama. So, you seem to be wrong on that.
Sandi, I once was a Dem...now I am Independent..IF the liberal media didn't hide all the fats about Obama he wouldn't be where he is today.
The only thing going for this guy is he made a speech in 2002 or 2004. That is it.
The video he presented to the peole at the convention was a a background he made up for himself.

I am hoping that the Supreme Court judges don't die or retire any time soon...but I am not voting for Obama..
And as far as Mrs. Palin is concerned.. more power to her. Conservative or not. The Dems wouldn't be where they are had they listened to Mrs. Clinton. Already his Change (whatever that is) has not happened with the appt of Biden as his VP and running mate.
18

Wally,

Byron:

you're all mixed upon this drug issue. Let me straighten.

The government has an obligation both legal & moral to stop cocaine, heroin & other illegal drugs coming into the US. The reason is that the people should be protected from these things. The government is not only failing to do this, the government has developed a system where the big drug smugglers are working with the government and protected. I gave you a link in #7. You should also read the book 'Dark Alliance' to document this. Then there are the books concerning the smuggling into Arkansas that Governor Clinton helped facilitate (along with George HW Bush). One book on that was from the English author Ambrose Evans Pritchard.

http://www.narconews.com/darkalliance/drugs/start.htm

http://www.mega.nu:8080/ampp/webb.html

However, it is immoral to throw citizens in jail merely for possession or use of small quantities. THe only legitimate role of government in this field is to protect the citizens from the drugs. When government fails to protect them and the people use drugs, then the government is doing more harm to them by giving them jail time and felony records than the drugs do. This is abusive to the citizens who should be respected even if they are drug users.

The hard-cold facts are that over a period of decades republican leaders and democrat leaders alike have facilitated the drug trade into the US. and then they've thrown in jail huge numbers of citizens who are actually victims of this moral cess-pool the government has facilitated.

And when she was governor she orchestrated the firing of her brother-in-law who had been a state policeman. The original article won't load because all over the world people are trying to load it. Here is a copy.

#18- I grew up right next the US murder capitol of the United States, East Palo Alto, California (per capita murder capital). With all due respect, the buyers of the drugs are far more responsible for the death of these minority children being used by the older dealers to "slash" as we called it to the white buyers, most of whom were Baby Boomers of Liberal decent (I know because many of them had the top party slogan of the time on their bumper "Save the Whales".) It is far greater a crime for an adult to purchase drugs from a child being used in an aggressive environment than for the child to sell the drugs to a small quantity in possession user and "victim" of substance abuse. I saw these things with my own eyes. I have seen children murdered, arrested, and beaten to a pulp while the white person simply drives away with their drugs free and clear of both the police and the violence. If they had bought in larger quantities, there presence would have been less in the area, thus reducing the violence. The smaller quantity possessors were the worst cause because they had a daily, if not every minute, presence in these children's lives. Wally, I have experience watching how badly wrong conventional thinking is on this issue. White drug users are not victims of substance abuse, they are co-perpetrators of the child murder and abuse associated with that industry. For they to promote themselves as the abused and those children getting butchered for being foolishly duped into participating as the abusers as well as the government for not stopping THEIR behavior is appalling. I have seen far too much to buy so aimlessly at a lot of conspiracy with no genuine experience to back it up, and I've been the very thick of it. You're wrong Wally, very wrong. You're on the wrong side if compassion and less violence is what you are looking for. I don't need links to educate what I have and still continue to see, especially when those links disagree with my own eyes. You

Wally, if you are a user, let me know and I can tell you stories of what happens to these kids after they sell these small quantities to the white buyers. It will turn your blood cold. Your arguments depend on 1960's policies and ideals, which are presently almost 50 years behind the times. It is that same generation that refuses to change and adapt now to help this situation. They dedicate to hating the wars, but kill more that the soldiers they protest against. Much literature today is based on hating one political party over another and nothing to do with helping the kids or victims of violence, national or international. Conspiracy theorists often lack the objective experience it takes to sift these attempts at ideology slander out of their thinking. Stop depending on Internet Links and other people's opinions and get out there and observe your own experiences. It will change who you believe without proof of what they say.

On the topic of Obama vs McCain in November, it will boil down to the 20% of Americans who are undecided. All the registered republicans will vote for McCain and all the registered democrats will vote for Obama. It will then fall to the floating 20%, the choice they have to make is which of these two people would make the best president. I think youth will win out. Obama seems vigourous, determined and full of energy. McCain seems old, tired and so yesterday.

McCain picked someone who is a pro lifer, no abortions for any reason, is an NRA member and hunts. These days, it is not necessary to hunt for food---any super market or butcher can supply meat to meat eaters. Your reasoning is flawed. She lives in the wilderness compared to PA. Hunting is a way of life, and they eat what they kill. But you seem to think hitting a cow on the head with a mallet is better?

I'm with you on Pro-choice, but I think the choice starts when the woman decides to open her legs. After that, its purely unaccountability. Everything we do is a choice.

As far as Ms Palin, she has bigger kahunas than most of her male counterparts. She turned in members of her own party for corruption, much less the other guys.

As for her and McCain being warmongers. Her son ships out to Iraq next month, and McCains' son is in the same position. So don't tell me they have no personal stake in the matter. They stand by their convictions for what they believe is good for the country, even though they may lose one of their own.

It sounds more like a case of rose coloured spectacles. It all seems to boil down to presentation, much like the time when Nixon and JFK had their TV presentation in the early sixties. Those who listened on radio had Nixon the winner, those who watched tv had JFK the winner. The reason being that he looked young, fit and tanned while Nixon looked pasty faced, old and unfit. I think the same will happen here.

This was exactly my concern if Obama had chosen Hillary as his VP. I couldn't quite see Bill taking a back seat to Hillary as VP.

Living in a US state with a republican administration what makes you think that things will change?

here's a video clip from YouTube showing a local news story up in Alaska. At 45 seconds in they start talking about one of the Palin scandals. Its very damaging to her.

The state legislature is going to come out with a report in October on how she had her brother-in-law fired.

What impresses me about her is that she mindlessly accepts the september 11 ideology and she's very pro-war. she came from a small town directly into the governor's house less than 2 years ago and she behaves like it. She's extremely partisan in her politics and simple-minded.

78, Weapon.

California is well-represented on the Democratic federal level with two powerful Democratic senators (Boxer and Feinstein), Democrat Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the House, so far the highest ranking elected woman in US history. The fact that the Governor is Republican only makes things interesting.

No, never fed up with comments. We take it all in stride.

Joor motairsycle may have been in a speech recently. He rode the motorcycle from Terminator with a bunch of other leather-clad legislators for some charity event. He's never afraid. Sometimes he goes a little overboard, though. He's currently pressuring the State Legislature to pass their stinkin' budget by threatening State workers with minimum wages. The wrong place to aim your bazooka, if you know what I mean.

To you people who regard Obama as inexperienced:

IBM snubbed Bill Gates when he approached them to adopt his operating system. The rest is history.

Regarding Palin. It's too bad she wasn't smart enough not to conceive a baby at 43. Apparently it has Down's Syndrome, which is very unfortunate, but can happen frequently with pregnancies of older women. She should have known better
