SOME of the British Embassy's Iranian staff held in Tehran will be put on trial, ruling clerics said today.
Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati made the announcement in a prayer sermon. He said the staff "made confessions".

Jannati did not say how many would be tried or on what charges. Earlier Iranian officials said all but one of the eight embassy personnel arres
ted on June 27 had been released, but European Union officials said they believed more than one was still being held.

Jannati is the head of the Guardian Council, a powerful body in Iran's clerical rule, and is close to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Mr Brown's spokesman said: "We are aware of these reports. We are concerned about these reports and we are seeking clarification on this as a matter of urgency."

Jannati, head of Iran's powerful Guardian Council, did not say how many of the embassy's Iranian staff, held since the weekend, would be tried or on what charges.

But he claimed that the staff "made confessions".

Iranian state media previously claimed that all but one of those arrested at the weekend had been released.

They were accused by the Iranian authorities of being involved in anti-government protests.

And what about those not only murdered but deliberately targetted by Irish terrorists including children.

Pleas spare us this tired, repetitive, ritual, hypocritical, sanctimonious girning.

Someone's looking for a fight.

Maybe someone has weapons of mass destruction.

But who?

# 6 Ugly.
Yes! the British forces were responsible for the killing of 136 children in the north east of Ireland.
I believe the numbers in Iraq, runs in to thousands of women and children slaughtered.
You are absolutely correct. Irish terrorist i.e uda lvf uvf red hand commando, were also responsible for the appalling murders of many women and children.

British soldiers killed many civilians in the north east of Ireland. They did not at any time apologise for these killings. Does that sound to you like "valuing human life" ? No! nor me.

Please notice that I also pointed out the deliberate and premeditated targetting - placing bombs in shopping centres in places like Warrington.

I suppose that's another country where we Scots will be unwelcome, thanks to being handcuffed to our meddlesome, interfering UK partner.
I hope the Scots that follow us will find the world's doors easier to open than we presently do with our British passport.

#1 Typical oder reaction. Never let the facts get in the way of a good telling off you say.
These staff are Iranian, so to do what you suggest the brits should arrest british people in the Iranian embassy and then possibly lop their heads off. Yeah... dude... I don't see that on the cards... ever.

Britain wont have enough money to fly them home soon. The latest figures show their economy is still plummeting.

#11 Ugly George.
On Friday the 17th may 1974 the UDA and it has been claimed, helped by British intelegence, placed bombs in Dublin and Monaghan in busy shopping areas. The bombs exploded killing 33 people.Among the dead were a family of four, mother father and two babies. Also a woman who was 8 months pregnant. This was the single biggest atrocity of the troubles.Yes even bigger than Omagh I would ask you not to be selective in your condemnation. Loyalist terrorists had the blood of children on their hands as well.

cheap shot! Mashi I actually expected higher standards from you!

when the Iranians arrested the "Embassy staff" they arrested both British citizens and Iranians who work for the embassy, they have since released the Brits read my post again carefully!

"arrest Iranian staff of the same rank, and inform the Iranians what ever happens to the Brits, their staff well suffer the same fate"

arrest "Iranian staff" where is my reference to arrest British staff!

As you say! "Never let the facts get in the way of a good telling off"

except when you can exploit the facts to produce a situation that clearly does not exist or in this case said.

as journalist you need to present the facts as truthful as you can! not use them to score petty points as you have tried to do here!
