GORDON Brown held talks with Nouri Maliki, his Iraqi counterpart, yesterday as efforts to free five British hostages continued.
The prime ministers discussed the plight of the men – who have now been held captive for more than six months – at a meeting in Downing Street.

They also considered progress with reconciling ethnic groups in Iraq, and rebuilding the country's shattered economy.

Mr Brown has previously demanded the release of the hostages, who have not been named.

In a video which emerged on 5 December, the captors threatened to kill the men unless British troops were pulled out of Iraq.

The group were seized by a crowd of about 40 gunmen dressed in police uniforms at the Iraqi Finance Ministry in Baghdad on 29 May.

Surely it is time for all troops to pull out of Iraq.

Not that the Americans have any intention of doing that.
US tactics have changed recently - troops remain in the Green Zone unless specifically called out to assist the Iraqi police. Casualties are reduced. In the background another manoeuvre is going on. The USA has no intention of leaving Iraq - four large permanent bases are being established by the US. There are to be permanent garrisons, ostensibly to help the Iraq authorities in case of rebellions but actually to keep the screws on the Iraq Govt to ensure the USA will control the Iraq oil fields.

I suggest those who scoff at this idea, 'Google Image' the American Embassy being constructed in Baghdad and read the specifications as to it's armaments.
