FORMER US death-row inmate Kenny Richey was yesterday cleared of assaulting a 54-year-old man over a £200 debt. Richey had been accused of attacking Robert McCall with a baton in his Edinburgh home last July, causing him to fall down stairs.
But yesterday at the High Court in Paisley, the prosecution withdrew charges of assault to danger of life, assault and robbery and attempting to defeat the ends of justice against Richey, citing a lack of corroboration.
When the charges were withdrawn, Richey's defence advocate pleaded guilty on his client's behalf to the only remaining charge on the indictment, a breach of the peace at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in August last year.
A full account of this offence was due to be given today.
