LONDON Mayor Boris Johnson said an amnesty for illegal immigrants would be "morally right", after research suggested nearly three-quarters of a million are living in the UK.
A study by the London School of Economics, conducted for the mayor, estimated the figure reached 725,000 in 2007.

Not sure why my post at #2 was deleted.

danielrober #4 - I don't know where you get the figures from but I do disagree with the idea that we should simply open our doors to illegal acts, i.e. entering the country without proper authority.

What is the point in having laws if the politicians turned around and ignore them for 750,000 illegal immigrants.

Note we are speaking about ILLEGAL immigrants and not asylum seekers, etc.

What is it about the British public and the media that they will not stand up and say clearly that ILLEGAL immigration must be stopped and the criminals, for that is what they are, should be returned to whence they came.

Just speculating on why my posting at #2 was removed. Could it have been because I said "stop pu*sy footing about"? Since this is quite a common term containing nothing suggestive I wonder why the deletion?

What galls me alsi is that you are not allowed to spell the word correctly as someone has decided that the word is inappropriate! What else do you suggest to use as an affectionate name for kitten?.

Or could the deletion be for giving my personal opinion. The was no racist, religous, or gender element in my comment so what was MY offence?

#5 danielrober - hi there, to some extent I do agree with your comment. I agree that some employers do indeed take advantage of ILLEGAL immigration but that is not the only cause for them coming to the UK.

There is a mixture of reasons one of which is the social welfare system. So why should those working legally, both UK nationals and LEGAL immigrants, have to foot the bill for ILLEGAL acts.

I personally would hammer those businesses employing ILLEGAL workers, perhaps also with prison sentences for the employers, as this is the only thing they would understand.

What a political opportunist Boris is.

750,000 illegal immigrants - 750,000 extra votes.

The operative word is ILLEGAL. If you reward illegal behaviour you will get more and more - Ask California in the USA - they are on their 4th(?) amnesty.

Why not divert some of the BILLIONS being wasted bailing out the banks on clamping down on the illegals and sending them home!

I think what Boris Johnson said is absolutely right.I have been in this country over 7yrs,put down roots here and dont have any criminal record. With BA(ED)degree and doing menial jobs is demoralising. If you are in my shoes you will know how it feels.I have been living in limbo and taking each day as it comes.Amnesty will definitely help peoplr like me.

So Boris effectively condones breaking the law and encouraging anyone to come into this country for what might be constructive activity but who knows what else. If we don't police our borders we can look forward to terrorists taking the opportunity to enter the UK and for criminals to do the same. Is this really what he wants? Rather than waste the lives of Briish troops in Afghanistan they'd be far better employed rooting out these illegals and for those caught a swift despatch to whence they came, not lingering in some transit accommodation so they can slip back in to the community but OUT and quick.

Remember too that these extra people make use of resources paid for by legitimate tax payers who seem to be the last people asked about what should happen yet whose money is freely used for freeloaders.
