YOUNG heroin addicts are waiting up to two years for assessment for possible treatment for their addiction in Aberdeen - the city with the highest rate of injecting drug abusers in Scotland.
A damning report by Scotland's social work watchdog found more than 600 people are on the waiting list for access to the city's substance misuse service.

Some patients are deliberately leaving GP practices which are not linked to the service in a bid to jump the "unacceptable" queue of addicts seeking help.

The report, by the Social Work Inspection Agency, also criticises the strategic management and leadership of the Aberdeen drug action team, claiming its performance is weak.
