A CRIME syndicate's plans to flood Shetland with cheap heroin to open up a new market has been foiled by police, a court heard yesterday.
Drug courier James Farrell was jailed for five years and three months after being caught with £25,000 worth of the drug.

Farrell, 43, was the second Liverpudlian to be found with heroin arriving at the harbour at Lerwick within two days.

George Beardwood, 48, a father of eight, was jailed for five years last week after he was discovered with more than £11,000 of heroin as he left a ferry at Holmsgarth on 27 September.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard Farrell had been stopped by police when he arrived at the same terminal a day earlier.

James Wolffe, QC, said: "Police gathered intelligence a criminal syndicate in Liverpool had identified Shetland as a lucrative market for their heroin."
