DAVID MILIBAND will make a keynote speech in Ukraine today strongly condemning Russia's decision to formally recognise two breakaway regions of Georgia.
The foreign secretary said he was visiting Kiev in a bid to assemble the "widest possible coalition against Russian aggression".

Russia's president Dmitri Medvedev was accused of "inflaming" the crisis yesterday by insisting that South Ossetia and Abkhazia should be independent.

Mr Medvedev said: "We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War."

He said the West would have to "understand the reason behind" the decision to recognise the regions if it wanted to preserve good relations with Russia.

Mr Miliband said Russia's recognition of the two regions was "unjustifiable and unacceptable".

The Foreign Secretary was backed by Western leaders including US President George Bush and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

This was covered in The Scotsman at:

Since that coverage nothing has changed except that UKIP are giving advice on the Glenrothes by-election. So don't vote for them. Vote for Labour policies, as they did in Glasgow East.

The war of words with the USSR does not make ¿WHO? Miliband a Foreign Secretary, much less a Prime Minister, unless he allies himself with the EU Common Foreign and Defence Policy and eschews America. Mili needs to be advised by Germany's Angela Merkel, Foreign Secretary Sikorski of Poland, Prime Minister Zapatero of Spain and Nicolas Sarkozy of France not by Condoleezza Rice and George Bush.

Russia needs to sell its gas, but not as much as we need to burn it since Russia can find other markets but we can't find other gas. "Business pressure" and diplomacy will not assuage claims to territorial aggrandisement as we discovered in Kosovo when ¿WHO? Miliband failed to stand for the Ahtisaari plan. 1938 and our betrayal of Czechoslovakia also spring to mind.

¿WHO? Miliband has no right to expect the rest of Europe to freeze to death so his overblown ego can strut with Bush and if he does he should expect to be charged with war crimes.

As BP builds a terminal here in Dalian!! Bet the Russians are wetting themselves with laughter at Milly the Muppet slamming them, a wee bit like being hit with the Russian equivalent of a lettuce leaf!
