POLICE have no plans to launch an investigation into George Galloway over his charity's links to Saddam Hussein's regime, it emerged yesterday.
The Respect MP faces suspension from Parliament for 18 days after a damning report from the Commons watchdog, which accused him of concealing the true source of funding for a charity he established.

But Sir Philip Mawer, the Standards' Commissioner, said he had not had access to, nor sought, Mr Galloway's personal bank statements or those of the Mariam Appeal, the charity at the centre of the controversy.

Reports yesterday suggested that Scotland Yard detectives could seek papers from the Serious Fraud Office to establish whether there were grounds for prosecution.

However, Metropolitan Police sources yesterday said that there was no current inquiry and there were "no plans" to investigate Mr Galloway.

The Met are too busy investigating Blair and his gang.

According to this investigation, of the £1.4m collected for the Mariam appeal, only £100,000 was actually spent on her -

"In the course of its life the Mariam Appeal enjoyed a total income of over £1.4 million, mainly derived from 3 overseas sources. No audited accounts were ever produced by the Appeal, but of this, it seems likely, on the information available to me, that up to £100,000 was expended on the care of Mariam Hamza herself. The great bulk of the Appeal's expenditure went on its campaigning activities. "

Now while most of the money came from foreign kings and Saddam Hussein fans, he did solicit money from the general public.

What was the money really spent on? When he shook the collecting can, didn't he tell us it was for her medical bills?

In 2003 on Newsnight, GG promised that he would publish the accounts - we're still waiting. See for yourselves - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/2969925.stm

Isn't the internet wonderful.

Not that busy: when we can all forecast the results there. Just like George Galloway winning the War on Want

If the police cannot find any wrongdoing why is Mr Galloway still facing suspension.

"There is no current inquiry and there are "no plans" to investigate Mr Galloway".

Now isn't that a surprise!
Why waste a good bit of spin with police evidence which could only prove the contrary.

I've heard about finding someone guilty before they've even been tried, but what some of the posters on this subject seem to be doing, is finding someone guilty after he has been exonorated. Whatever the merits or demerits of the way the fund was managed may or may not have been, what is clear is that George Galloway has been found not to have been fiddling the fund. I'm reading a lot of vitriol and innuendo in some of these messages. I'm not reading any hard facts. No one is saying where the commissioners got it wrong. Nor what facts they were unaware of which might have changed their findings.

What we do know, is that George Galloway has more than a few powerful enemies.

#10 Some of Galloway's biggest enemies though are his ex fellow-travellers on the hard left - they know what a charlatan the man is.
