LOTHIANS Green MSP Robin Harper is pressing the Scottish Government to use its new powers over ship-to-ship oil transfers in the Forth.
The Scottish Parliament last week approved amendments to environmental regulations giving ministers the power to "call in" proposals which might affect protected habitat sites.

Mr Harper has lodged a series of questions asking when the Scottish Executive intends to use the new powers to block the proposal to pump 7.8 million tonnes of Russian crude oil every year between tankers anchored four miles off the coast.

He said: "Last Thursday, the Scottish Parliament unanimously backed a real step change in the way that Scotland can carry out its duty under European environmental law.

"With that power comes responsibility. Scottish Ministers must now act in the public interest."
