A 15-YEAR-OLD boy was among six suspected football hooligans arrested in a new wave of dawn raids following violent clashes before last month's Hibs-Rangers match at Easter Road.
The teenager from the Redhall area has been charged with breach of the peace and was set to appear in court today.

Seventeen officers from Lothian and Borders Police carried out a string of arrests after tracing the suspects captured on CCTV footage.

The team was aided by officers from the Central Scotland and Strathclyde forces who launched early morning operations in their own areas. A 31-year-old from Ayrshire and a 31-year-old man from Stirlingshire were also tracked down and detained.

Police chiefs from Edinburgh shared the security camera footage with their colleagues in the west to identify the suspects, who are both believed to be linked to Rangers.

The other men arrested in the Capital yesterday were an 18-year-old man from Pilton, a 19-year-old man from Lochend and a 31-year-old man from Portobello. The six were all due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Warrants have also been issued for two suspects who were on the police hit list, but could not be found at their home addresses.

The latest swoops brings the total number of alleged thugs arrested in the wake of the game on March 4 to 23.

Out of the ten men arrested in operations last Thursday, three were remanded in custody while three more were given special bail conditions banning them from SPL grounds.

CCTV footage captured scenes of fighting on the streets in the Meadowbank and Jock's Lodge area, which erupted just before kick-off.

A special squad was set up to review security camera footage and collect intelligence before making the arrests.

Today, a police spokesman said: "We hope that these raids will act as a reminder that there is no place for this type of behaviour. We work closely with football clubs and supporter's groups to ensure that games are safe and enjoyable places.

"Anyway that causes trouble can expect to face the consequences of their actions".

The ten suspected casuals who appeared in court on Friday were charged with a breach of the peace.

James Hunter, 30, Kevin Watt, 18, and Joseph McLellan, 18, were remanded in custody following their hearings and were expected to be fully committed today.

Stephen Watt, 17, Richard Grady, 19, and Gary Quilletti, 25, were released on bail with the special condition that they do not approach within 100 yards of any SPL football ground two hours before, or after, kick-off.

David Low, 41, Blair McKinnon, 26, Marc Johnstone, 29, and Steven Salmond, 24, were released on bail.

Around 70 people were involved in the fracas with witnesses describing the mob as "running absolutely riot". Seven arrests were made shortly afterwards in connection with the disturbance.

It is thought that the hooligans linked to Rangers were largely from Edinburgh rather than Glasgow.

Police believe the mass brawl which took place in front of shocked passers-by on a Sunday afternoon may have been pre-arranged between the rival groups using mobile phones or via websites. The subsequent arrests were carried out at homes in Leith, Restalrig, Pilton, Saughton and the city centre.

The crackdown follows the wave of arrests made in the weeks after October's Hearts-Hibs derby. Dozens of hooligans fought running battles in Lothian Road and Fountain Park following the match and 54 suspects have now been traced and charged.

Anyone with information about football-related disorder is asked to contact police on 0131-311 3131.

Yes, what's the point in not letting them within 100 yards of the ground?

Meadowbank, Jock's Lodge, Lothian Rd & Fountain Park...within 100 yards of Easter Rd or Tynecastle???

My mate is a former Hibs casual from a few years ago. Now that he has grown up he realises that off all the casuals, very very few were real tough guys and by far the majority went along secure in the knowledge they were in a big gang.

My mate also tells of the time a few years ago him and the supposed hardest causal were banged up in a cell with other guys. One of these guys was a real tough guy and made the leader of the casuals do press ups over a piss pot !!!

Your comments about the real tough guy who was made to do press ups over a p*** pot don't ring true, unless u're prepared to name him.......

No.3 LIAR. You'll find that the Hibs gang were one of THE most notorious and feared in the UK. So wise up and stop your silly tales behind that PC.
Stop your lies.

Calm down! all the guy said was he had heard a story. All you "casuals" need to grow up, trying to score points over other firms. Nobody wins, the majority of you get a kick-in and some even get sent to prison....Where do I sign up?

F******!

i went to school with loads of hibs casuals and even went to games with them grew up with the crombies etc and believe me these guys weren't soft, and were great guys to be around. but all in all ended up in jail etc why because the ego got them into trouble. All because they were young and daft like us all everyone has faults.

# 3 you're right that alot of them aren't really "tough" when it comes down to things......
The thing that really gets me with these people is that if they really had any interest in fighting, they'd be joining boxing/martial arts gyms.......
And,if you're reading this DAVID LOW (one of the suspects arrested-he's 41 ! ) GROW UP YOU MORON.
You're a grown man. Lead by example. Tell the 18 and 19 year olds you're hanging out with to get a life......

Who is Irvine Welsh?

These out-of-control hooligans deserve to have the book thrown at them and be incarcerated for a very long time.

They bring discredit on Scotland and England worldwide and should have life-long bans from attending soccer matches.

They are a disgrace to your nation and bring disrepute to those soccer fans who BEHAVE!

Thown them in jail or prison and thow away the key!

here again we have the same problem all over the world, young people in controlof whatever they want to do and the police are handtyed because of the justice system just slaps their hands , I sometime think the judges are afraid to hand out a serious sentence for fear of reprisal , they should be sent to the army to use their fighting skills and help out all the soldiers overseas who would love to have the help, and if they are to young at present then there entry in to the services would be held until the become of age .

East at Easter, what a pathetic little boy you really are! It's scum like you that should be made to clean the streets with a tooth brush and then locked back up at nights. Do you really think your hard? I fought for my country in Iraq and would wipe the floor with vermin like you!

Just stumbled across this story.

I was in the boozer with one of the boys that was released on bail following these raids. The Police intelligence is absolute rubbish unless the guy has some sort of "Heroes" style superpower as he was in the pub with his bird & myself from about 1300 onwards on the day in question.
