EDINBURGH students joined a protest against nuclear weapons outside Faslane naval base on the Clyde at the weekend.
A delegation of 25 students, from Edinburgh, Oxford, Cambridge and Sussex universities, camped out for two days as part of a peaceful demonstration.

The facility on the Clyde is currently host to the UK's submarine-based Trident nuclear weapons system.

The 'other wasters' present included a Japanese nuclear physicist, a knighted professor of development studies and several of the most distinguished and committed peace activists Britain has seen.

We did spend a lot of time talking though, as people related their own areas of expertise to the question of Britain's nuclear arsenal. While the students took advantage of the professors' learned views, many of the professors were educated and inspired by the students' commitment, spirit and hope.
