ATTACKS on Roma people living in Hungary have risen because of a strengthening of far-right radical groups, a Roma Hungarian MEP warned yesterday.
Viktoria Mohacsi claims attacks that killed four Roma people earlier this month can be linked to the launch of far right group, the Hungarian Guard, and called on police to investigate.

Although the Roma do have a shady reputation, this just shows that intolerance marches on.

1...Loads of people have a shady reputation...just exactly what is "Roma" anyway...jews had a shady reputation...blacks..."Tinkers" in Britain...the Irish...Scots in England....

I know what you mean...those who do not fit in with our 'civilised societies'...we tar them all with the same brush...because that is surely what we do...we make people the enemy because we do not understand them and fear them...me...I prefer the company o' animals any day...just started as a volunteer with a local cat and dog home and oh my gawd...the poor souls...my third "God-child" (hah..godless pagan)..is a mix of many breeds...eyes as gentle as the kindest whisper...big smelly pee stained paws...has obviously been in her cage for far too long as she shook with excitement when I took her for a walk....then she ate some pigeon wings..snapping her head away from my disgusted finger flapping at them...a survivor...obviously used to scavenging to survive...I have yet to get to know her but I have a feeling she is a loving wee soul......

Some humans need to hate..they need to identify themselves with haters...look at our shameful history throughout the world...a world where we "ethnically cleanse" ourselves of fellow human beings....maybe animals do the same thing..but that would just go to prove...we aint exactly as superior as we'd like to think we is now...would it?

We were told that the whole point of the EU was to stop this sort of thing ever happening again.

Shades of Munich.

Bless your heart and other vital organs Ms Doreen. The more dogs I meet, the less I tolerate people.

The Roma in Central Europe are often involved in stabbings, assault and sometimes murders of each other and the majority populations. They have a justified reputation for crime and violence. Do you think each time a Roma stabs somebody in a robbery it makes international news? No. How do we know that the attacks mentioned are anything different from the sometimes fatal gang/mafia related violence between ethnic gangs we see all over Europe including in Britain?

Dougie, while I agree, don't you in Scotland have a huge problem with home grown knife attacks? Probably not as bad as the gun fights that happen here,but..

#2 Ms Doreen in the Cyber Shebeen,
Nice try Horrible Cankers, you eat whatever ain't quick enough to elude you, thus the girth AND the foul mouth.
As far as people killing people goes, you Brits have kinda written the book on that wouldn't you say? You've colonized every continent and slaughtered anyone who stood in the way.
It's kind of a tossup between you and the Spaniards as to which group was most cruel, there I'd give it to the Spaniards but I may well be wrong on that.

Even a bad storm or crop failure is blamed on those mysterious "right wing" groups these days!

Note they are never identified.

How many millions were slaughtered or murdered or worked to death in the Gulags under the scourge of global communism???

Are the maligned "right wing groups" responsible for those crimes againt humanity as well????

i've had a few dealings with gypsies.Though i wouldn't trust them with my wallet, watch,or woman, there is still something intriguing about them. One fellow here once hired the gypsies to fill in some holes in his driveway. They wanted to do the work at night. He found out why, when he inspected the job and discovered they had filled the holes with dirt, and then put black paint on top of the dirt.No asphault. He did pay them something though.

Random killings are anywhere to be deplored. That this report has come out of Hungary doesn't entirely surprise. Central and Eastern Europe has largely still to get to grips with the norms of western civilization as we know it. It will take some time.

I get a handle on that from time spent in Eastern Europe, and being back in Hungary soon does not fill me with oodles of joy.
