Dictator spared death sentence

AN ETHIOPIAN court spared exiled ageing former Marxist dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam from the death penalty yesterday, giving him life in prison for genocide during his 17-year rule.
It is unlikely he will serve any time as Zimbabwe will not extradite him.

From 1975-1978, Mengistu was responsible for the 7th worst genocide in world history. Around 1,500,000 Ethiopians were the victims of the Derg genocide.

I had'nt realised this.
