CAMPAIGNERS have praised a decision by the Scottish Government to increase targets for emissions reduction in climate change legislation.
In a U-turn, the SNP has lodged an amendment that will see targets for emissions reduction increased from 34 per cent to 42 per cent by 2020.

The measures are likely to be approved when the Climate Change (Scotland) Bill goes to the final vote today .

Previously, the SNP had said it would only increase the target if other EU nations also upped their targets. Labour, the Lib Dems and Greens had all lodged amendments for an increase in the targets.

The Stop Climate Chaos Scotland coalition said yesterday the laws were "on the verge of being world leading". More than 100 campaigners are expected to head to parliament today to lobby MSPs to pass a strong bill.

Here are the indisputable facts.

8000 earth orbits ago, Britain was cloaked beneath the ice.
Then, behold, a European caveman was hungry one frosty day.
The furry homoerectus decided to burn a tablespoon of woolly mammoth fat.
An ingenious idea that meant he could cook his wee fishy for dinner.
Alas, this combustion process gave off a dangerous gas named carbon dioxide.
Suddenly the ice melted and a new island to the north was born.
The great god of fear “Modeleous Softwareous” proclaimed cooking fishies is bad for the planet.
From that day onwards cooking fishies was taboo.
Anyone that dared question the Great God of Fear would be a heretic and ridiculed.

Of course, in hindsight the ice melted because of the big hot orangey thing in the sky.
But who are we to question Modeleous Softwareous.

This legislation will one day end up in a glass cabinet on Calton Hill, beside Edinburgh's other disgrace.

There are signs of intelligent political life in Australia, so that is a small compensation for the lack of it here:
'FAMILY First senator Steve Fielding has made up his mind on global warming - there's not enough evidence that it's real.

After talks with the government and top scientists, Senator Fielding, whose vote could be crucial in passing the Federal Government's plan to put a price on carbon emissions, has released a document setting out his position.

"Global temperature isn't rising," it says.

Senator Fielding says he would not risk job losses on "unconvincing green science" to set up a carbon emissions trading scheme (ETS).'

Isn't marvelous that politicians think they can reduce emissions so precisely. Not 50%, not even 45%, but precisely 42%. This is proof that they are in the grips of mass delusion pandemic. Firstly, by assuming that we are responsible for changes in the planet's climate and that secondly, even if we entertain that warped idea, we could do anything about it.

This is nothing whatsoever to do with global warming, climate change, carbon emmissions or anything like it. Anyone with any brains knows fine well that nothing that man does or does not do is going to affect those things.

The real reason behind this is the potential to generate cash. Huge amounts of cash from "green" taxes. It also gives the potential to control people even more because restrictive laws can be justified on "green" grounds.

Why do you think the SNP and the liberals have suddenly decided to impliment this rubbish?

#2 El Franko - irrespective of the merits or otherwise of your argument I would advise against citing Australia's Family First members to back it up.

Don't edify this tripe by comparing it to Calton Hill - at least an ancient monument, albeit unfinished, has some merit. A more apt comparison is with what is usually deposited on a daily basis at the bottom of a U-bend.
