THE Dark Knight, the heavily hyped Batman Begins sequel featuring the late Australian actor Heath Ledger, took a record $155.34 million (£77.5 million) in its first weekend in US cinemas.The total topped the previous best of $151.1 million dollars, set by Spider-Man 3 in May 2007.
Ledger, 28, died in January from an accidental prescription-drug overdose.
