HEARTS are hoping Andy Driver's call-up to the England Under-21 squad is not ruined by injury with club medics working to cure the nerve problem which has precluded him from the last two matches.
Stuart Pearce, England's Under-21 coach, has included Driver in a provisional squad for the friendly against Azerbaijan on Monday, June 8, in Milton Keynes.

A place in the final group – expected to be named at the end of May – would represent th
e winger's first England call-up but Hearts harbour doubts over his fitness.

Nerves stretching between his back and hamstring are causing pain, making him doubtful for this weekend's visit to Celtic. He missed last week's draw at Aberdeen as well as Saturday's victory over Dundee United with the complaint yet to fully subside.

Manager Csaba Laszlo is keen for Driver to receive international recognition from his birth country but stressed today that he must be fully fit to join up with England.

"I know about the report that he will be selected for England, but maybe he can't play," said the Hungarian.

"He told me if he had an injection he could play (against Dundee United], but that was a risk in case he has a rupture.

"The doctors say with focused treatment maybe he can possibly play against Celtic but I won't risk him. If he can achieve football at national level, I think for this club it's a great opportunity. I expect him to be in the England squad if he feels okay this time next week."

Capping Driver at Under-21 level would threaten him representing Scotland in future were FIFA's international body to agree to a rule change concerning eligibility.

The Scottish Football Association has proposed that footballers should be able to play for any nation in which they have had five years' schooling – Driver moved to Scotland aged 11 – however the suggestion has yet to be implemented.

Meanwhile, Laszlo has been credited with an interest in Darlington striker Pawel Abbott, who has scored eight goals in 18 games this season and is out of contract next month.

Reports south of the Border claim the 27-year-old has received advances from Hearts.

Never mind the Darlington guy the now.....

Why are Scotland not pushing the boat out to get Driver to play for Scotland, they are going to lose a potentially great left sided winger to England...tut tut tut!

Right, this Darlington bloke - Paper talk and nothing more!!

Working in Plymouth, I see that Argyle are offloading Kritian Timar (cant afford him) who is a Hungarian centre back. 6' 2" tall and prety decent when Ive seen him and played with Csaba in Hungary. Wouldnt be surprised if he came up to Tynie and we could do with him as a replacement for Kari.

Don't think Andy should be risked in what is a meaningless game for us at the weekend.

#2 I think the SFA are to be fair. All depends on when FIFA get around to discussing the SFA proposal and whether or not they agree to it.

I went to see Darlington play in an FA cup tie a few seasons back while visiting friends down there. They got horsed by a non-league outfit so don't think their overall standard is all that high but maybe Csaba has seen something in this guy or maybe it is all just paper talk. Don't forget that Clum had a better strike rate with Livi than this guy has!

I hope this Darlington striker isnt the next Clayton Donaldson!

The Hobos would love that!

Its hardly filling my heart with joy coupled with Brunos imminent departure. A quick scout on Wikipedia, though never completely reliable, suggests he is a drifter.
I would imagine they will have several earmarked an Abbot is just one of those, hopefully at the lower end of the scale.
When these things get leaked its usually for a reason, more than likely to create a bit of interest in the player.

Personally i dont know why people rate A DRIVER,
He is an average player and can't cross a ball,
be prepared for two or three of the so called bigger players leaving,
the wage bill will see to that.

#1 - 8 goals in 18 games is better than anyone we have. If 8 goals in 18 is the average, he could well score over 16 goals in the 38 game campaign up here and that would do me just fine.

#7 yup youll know better than Pearce..

I for one wont mind if the wage bill comes down, it makes sense.

So called bigger players that helped us achieve 3rd place and Europe?

Hope Driver does miss the England game so we can sneak him into the scotland squad at some point down the line! Although, not a major issue, that boy Commons looks like he could have Left mid sown up for years.

Abbott is actually a decent player. Haven't seen loads of him, but seen him a few times on sky, used to play for Huddersfield a think. Very much an old fashioned number 9, fairly big guy, but good touch and technique, certainly seems to know where the goals are. Think he could be another with glass legs which you really dont need at the PBS. Could be a very decent signing if kept fit and getting service though.

Driver in no way will be risked on Sunday.
Reason.
Because if he plays for English under 21s he will get far more exposure - more exposure down south means the price tag goes up.
More suitors - larger fee.
No brainer really.

Who do we play in central defence on sunday alongside Karipidis.?
Zaliukas misses the 1st four games in the league come August so we know that cover is desperately required with no recognised experienced central at the club (Kari having gone and Zali in the stand)
Time for the Pole to be kept on and given a chance ?
He was quite good on saturday and by all reports is better at centre half. Chuck him in against celtic and see what he can do. If he does well I cannot see his demands exactly being too high for a one year contract.
Is there much point playing Zaly?...this won't help us in three months time when he is missing.

If reports are true about kingston and nade's weekly wages being around 25k then surely this is where the costcutting must start. Nade is hopeless and kingston is a waster who only tried when he was on loan. IMO hearts should let both go as free agents just to clear their wages. Nobody would buy nade anyway.
I'd like to see aguiar stay, but as long as he isn't being greedy about wages. He should think long an hard before going to glasgow, it might look promising to him in theory but there is no guarantee it will work out that way. At hearts he is the man and a cert start every game, at 28 he is at his peak and should consider the merits of being a squad player at either of the old firm before thinking about leaving tyney.

Dont know about Kingston these days. If he gets a good pre season under his belt and stays clear of injury then he could be a very usefull player in Europe. Hate to say it but i would rather see a fit Kingston in ctr mid than the moaning housewife that is Mrs Stewart. Could we get rid of Nade and perhaps give his wages to Bruno to stay ?

I thought the Polish guy Mrowiec or whatever you call him had a great game at ctr half against United. Saw him playing up front once and he was mince.

It's down to Romanov.

Csaba has publicly stated he wants to keep our best players (that clearly includes Aguiar) and to enlist some new ones.

Romanov's response will tell the fans just how much ambition he has for HMFC.

Mind you, following the recent report that some 8,000 season tickets had been sold, someone on here said "That's 8,000 reasons for Romanov not to listen..."
