EDINBURGH Castle has been ranked in a list of the top five "wonders" of the British Isles.
Holidaymakers named the Castle in fourth spot, one above Ben Nevis.

The top slots in the poll were taken by Big Ben, the Giant's Causeway and Stonehenge.

The survey was carried out by Halifax Travel Insurance.

Spokeswoman Vicky Watson said: "Our research – The Wonders of the British Isles – is a reminder of the stunning treasures that can be found right here on our doorstep."

A spokesperson for VisitScotland added: "We are delighted that two of Scotland's most popular attractions have made it on to this list, beating some of the most famous attractions in the UK."

Cheers #2 AD.

Here's what my family thought ....

1. Stonehenge, Wiltshire. If you can get near it!
2. Giant's Causeway, County Antrim. Undergoing heavy erosion!
3. Big Ben. The bell or it's clockface?
4. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh
5. Ben Nevis, Lochaber. Not climbable to everyone.
6. The Needles, Isle of Wight. You need a boat!
7. The Eden Project, Cornwall. Covered by a Dome!
8. London Eye. Secret transmitter for alien probes!
9. Blackpool Tower. In need of a makeover.
10. Angel of the North, Gateshead. Rusting bit of tin!

So Edinburgh Castle should be #1 since it doesn't have problems like the rest!

#s 3&4 - Good point well made BW. Perhaps Halifax should've consulted your good self before they came up with this list of problematic wonders!!!
