A WEBSITE featuring more than 1000 images of Edinburgh has been launched by a local history enthusiast.
The site, www.edinburghinpictures.co.uk, is the brainchild of website designer Rachel Windsor, who has been working on it for six months.

Visitors to the site can search for pictures by place name or theme, or take a virtual tour of a particular area.

Ms Windsor said: "I wanted to create something which would be useful to people trying to find out about Edinburgh and about all the history connected with the streets and buildings.

"With a website, you can link between bits of information in a way that you can't with a book, so it allows simple cross-referencing between, say, Walter Scott's birthplace and the Scott Monument, or the many city centre sculptures created by John Steell."
