DAVID Beckham's lawyers are discussing with Los Angeles Galaxy the possibility of extending his loan spell at AC Milan, the Italian club have confirmed.
"His lawyers are in talks with Los Angeles Galaxy," Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani said on the team's website. "But there is no negotiation at the moment."
The 33-year-old midfielder, who has been in fine form for Milan, moved to Italy dur
ing the US close season on a two-month loan deal to try to stay in contention for a place in the England side.
Galliani has said he wants Beckham to stay at Milan after his loan finishes on 9 March. For technical reasons, Beckham's loan is actually until June but there is a written agreement that he goes back to the United States in March.
Milan have not yet made an offer for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player, Galliani said. "To enter a negotiation and eventually close a deal we have time until 8 March," he said.
Calls for Beckham to stay at Milan have grown since he surpassed expectations, having scored two goals in his first five starts for the Serie A side.
Beckham has repeatedly stated that he will return to Los Angeles when his loan spell ends but Galliani said the player would like to stay.
Milan, who are six points behind Serie A leaders Inter, are desperate to keep the England midfielder and have included him in their Uefa Cup squad.
Meanwhile, Ricardo Quaresma is determined to put his nightmare spell at Inter behind him and help reignite Chelsea's drive for silverware. The London side became the fifth club of the 25-year-old's professional career when he signed on loan from the Serie A giants until the end of the season.
After an unsuccessful spell at Barcelona, the Sporting Lisbon trainee moved to Porto before he was snapped up by Inter coach Jose Mourinho last summer for 18million (£16.3million).
Despite scoring on his debut, the Portuguese winger failed to establish himself at the San Siro and was criticised by Mourinho for what he saw as the winger's poor work-rate.
After making just 12 starts for Inter, Quaresma admitted he was glad to leave the Italians for Stamford Bridge, where the man whom he used to play under with Portugal – Scolari – is currently manager.
"I didn't have many opportunities to show my qualities at Inter," said Quaresma. "I am really glad I have this opportunity to play with such a good club as Chelsea."
Chelsea's defeat at Liverpool last Sunday leaves them five points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester United, who have a game in hand. Quaresma is, however, hopeful he can put Chelsea's faltering quest for silverware back on track. "Obviously Chelsea is a great club and it has great quality players and I am very proud that I can have the chance to represent such a great club."
Elsewhere, former AC Milan and Chelsea midfielder Samuele Dalla Bona has offered his services to West Ham having recently cut short his contract with Napoli.
Dalla Bona, who spent four years at Chelsea before joining Milan in 2002, is eager to again prove his worth in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old has confirmed he has spoken to West Ham coach Gianfranco Zola with a view to returning to London. "I have spoken to Zola," said Dalla Bona. "I have told him I have ended my contract with Napoli. I would love to return to London and I expect a reply from Gianfranco (Zola]. I really hope that I can go back to England, where I really proved my worth.
"At Napoli, I have found little playing time and I still don't know the reasons why. Despite playing well in my first year and contributing to the team gaining promotion to Serie A, I have not been given the chance to prove my value. Obviously with (Napoli coach Eddy] Reja, there was no feeling."
