DAVID Cameron, the Conservative leader, has vowed to clean up the City if he wins the next general election.
He signalled a new era of tighter regulation on financiers following the fall out from the credit crunch, promising a new dose of "law and order".
His plans to toughen regulation were set out at a summit in the City. Mr Cameron said the "take what you get, however you get it" philosophy would no longer be tolerated.
"We are the party of law and order. So we are the party to bring law and order to the financial markets," he said.
The Tory leader also reaffirmed his pledge to cut inheritance tax after Kenneth Clarke, the shadow business secretary, suggested it was an "aspiration" rather than a firm commitment.
