Willie McStay has been confirmed as manager of Hungarian side Ujpest after leaving his role as Celtic reserve coach.
The Hoops agreed to let the former Sligo Rovers manager leave the club in order to take up the position as part of their link-up with the eastern European club.

The agreement will see Celtic loan young players to Ujpest while also involving the club in their programme to recruit talent from eastern Europe.

Former Celtic player McStay, who has coached at Parkhead for 15 years, said: "I intend to keep in touch with developments at Celtic but this is a great move for me at this stage of my career and I am really looking forward to the challenge."

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell concluded the deal following talks with Ujpest counterpart Joe Borocz in Glasgow.

Lawwell said: "Willie goes with our very best wishes. This is a tremendous opportunity for him to gain invaluable managerial experience and we wish him every success."

Borocz added: "We are looking forward to welcoming Willie to Budapest. We are confident that he will have a very positive impact on our team and on Hungarian football overall."

Pat, good on yer! I've always found it a bit weird when people support two teams in the one league but it's not that uncommon elsewhere-I know quite a few German guys who support at least two German League clubs, ultimately most fans have a ranking of teams they sort of like, are indifferent about and loathe-where's the harm!

Why would I ever support Hearts?

Should have added, in SPL league matches and Scottish Cup ties vs RFC.

PS. will back any Scottish side in European competitions.

Exactly , in Europe you back all the sides. God grief I will even be going to watch Rangers for the second year running on their up coming German tour.

As for Ujpest, Celtic fans of a certain vintage will remember them knocking a very good Celtic side out of Europe in the 70's.

Frank Benne, I think was their best player.

Number 6 - Celtic and Ujpest met twice in successive seasons in the European Cup.

1971/72 European Cup Quarter Final:
Ujpest 1 Celtic 2
Celtic 1 Ujpest 1
Celtic lost semi-final on penalties to Inter Milan.

1972/73 European Cup 2nd Round:
Celtic 2 Ujpest 1
Ujpest 3 Celtic 0

So it's honours even.
