British Airways carried 7.3% fewer passengers last month than in May 2008, the airline announced today.
A total of just under 2.76 million travellers flew with BA in May 2009 compared with nearly 2.98 million in the same month last year.
The biggest dip in passenger numbers last month was on Asia Pacific routes where traffic fell 19.2% compared with May 2008.
BA also said that its premium traffic (those passengers travelling in first class and business class seats) fell 17.2% last month.
BA planes were 75.1% full last month compared with 76.1% in May last year.
Meanwhile, Ryanair said today that it carried 5.51 million passengers in May 2009 – a 9% increase on the May 2008 figure.
Its planes flew 81% full last month compared with 80% in May 2008.
