9am Briefing: 'Assault' victim in serious condition

A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after an alleged assault in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 31-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident in Haddington Place, off Leith Walk, at about 3.45am.

Four people are expected to appear in court today charged in connection with the incident.

Flood alert follows rain storm

EMERGENCY services were called to deal with flash flooding in West Lothian after about an inch of rain fell in a few hours.

Fire crews were called out to Livingston and Whitburn yesterday to use pumps following reports of six-inch deep puddles in several locations, and a pump was also used to clear water from Harthill Road in Bathgate.

Susan Boyle tour hope
ORGANISERS of the Britain's Got Talent live show were today hoping Susan Boyle would be fit enough to return to the tour.

The 48-year West Lothian singer withdrew from the third date of the tour in Manchester yesterday after she was advised to rest.

She is due to perform tonight at Glasgow SECC but doubts remain about her health.

Fringe ticket fury
FURIOUS customers have complained over problems trying to book tickets for the Fringe.

People who paid up to £18 to become official Friends of the Fringe were reportedly forced to wait hours on a "priority" hotline.

Phil Cornwell, 63, from Longniddry in East Lothian, said: "I started phoning a few minutes before 10am on Friday. It was constantly engaged, right up to 11:10am."

Air delays down
FLIGHT delays from Edinburgh Airport have fallen, but half of charter flights are still leaving Edinburgh late, according to new figures from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority.

The airport saw the greatest improvement outside London, with punctuality up by 12 per cent.
