ALEX ARTHUR has received a welcome surprise reward from his wife Debbie for stopping French opponent Mohamed Benbiou in just 92 seconds on Friday in Glasgow – a short holiday break in the Italian capital, Rome, where the couple will spend a few days later this week.
Arthur will then make an immediate return to training in preparation for his next fight at his new weight of lightweight. And he is hoping to be on the Amir Khan next month when the Bolton fighter takes on Ukrainian WBA light-welterweight champion An
dreas Kotelnik.

Arthur said: "Nothing would please me better than posting another spectacular lightweight win in Manchester so that the fans down there could see once again what the real Alex Arthur looks like, something they didn't see in September 2008 when I lost my WBO title to Nicky Cook in Manchester.''

Arthur's coach Terry McCormack promised: "I will have Alex toiling hard in the Lochend gym and sparring so that he wins big style in Manchester, no matter who he faces down there."

One man Arthur will not be fighting is Aberdeen's Commonwealth champion, Lee McAllister as suggested in some quarters.

Arthur added: "This isn't the first time this idea has been raised, even by McAllister himself, but fighting McAllister or anyone else for a Commonwealth title totally underwhelms me.

"I am concentrating on chasing a world lightweight title fight and nowhere does Lee McAllister figure in that scenario.

"The only person who could possibly benefit from such a bout would be McAllister and I'm not in the business of helping his career, I just want to advance my own.''

Meanwhile, three young eastern amateur boxers will head down to Liverpool on Thursday to try and grab British title glory in the GB Championships for boxers born in 1991/92.

The event is over two days at Everton Leisure Centre.

South Queensferry pair, lightweight Lewis Benson and light-welterweight Chris McHale, will have the added comfort of having their coach Mark Geraghty in their corner as he has been also selected as a squad coach for Scotland.

Gilmerton's outstanding reigning British lightweight champion, Connor McCallum, makes up the trio and will defend his British crown.

Alex Arthur is less than complimentary to Lee McAllister and without real justification. Has he sparred with Lee? If so (I understand it has happened) and was it brought to a premature halt?
It's nice to be nice, you never know what's round the corner and AAA has hardly been setting the heather on fire himself.
Scottish boxing needs as many title holders/contenders as it can get without boxers undermining each other and their capabilities.

Arthur can be belittling of his fellow pro's when he isn't qualified to behave in this manner.
He has fought a procession of "huddies" and any time he has stepped up he's been gubbed.
Too many soft fights in his own backyard and a reluctance to travel any distance.
He's a lightweight now but we don't hear him howling for the head of fellow lightweight Juan "fast fists" Guzman.
Arthurs in the veteran stage of his career (31) and ranting about a world tile fight in the Braehead Arena....get on the road and earn it like Ken Buchanan had to do, that's why he's been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
By the age of 31 Buchanan was on his 4th passport.

Good to see you get a win again AAA but in all honesty if that bloke u were in the ring with on friday is a pro boxer then im posting this message from my private beach in miami.

Bottom line another loss woulda been the end of the career at any money making level so you went in with a guy who sells big issue when hes not getting knocked out.

Title fights arent earned with opponents like that, You should be keeping your head down mouth closed and pummeling whatevers put in front of you.

comments made previously are accurate. a.a.a. has a penchant for shooting himself in the foot.if he keeps listening to himself slaver, he will disappear where the sun don't shine in a hurry.alienating the people he requires to put bums on seats, has bit him in the past. this will re-appear and marginalise his efforts.
frank warren will not be pleased and a.a.a. will disappear.hello franny et al as arnold schwartzennager said
i'll be back.i told a.a.a.to move up to light-weight
after he won the scottish ,before he went to kuala lumpur.somebody got the balls to tell me different.

All this talk is cheap. It's easy to shout out someone from behind a computer keyboard but the fact is AAA is stepping up there and getting his game back on the road. Ken Buchanan was a legend, but does that mean we have to undermine what Alex is doing now? How about celebrating our champions, they are pretty thin on the ground as far as I can see.

Folk are far to quick to knock achievement up here.
