Panic-stricken villagers batter two leopards to death

FRIGHTENED people have chased and battered to death two rare leopards in India, highlighting increasing numbers of endangered wildlife that are killed as rapid economic development destroys habitats.
In Kashmir, villagers attacked a leopard on Wednesday after it injured two boys in Pulwama district, 45 miles south of Srinagar, the state's summer capital.

"Panicky villagers ruthlessly killed the leopard with stones and sticks," said a police officer.

In the western city of Nasik, television footage showed a group of people beating a leopard with logs as it lay on the ground apparently after being cornered. It later died.

Officials in Kashmir say more than a dozen people, many of them children, have been killed in the past year by leopards and black bears, while half-a-dozen wild animals have been killed.

Do these idiots not realise that the reason they are being attacked by leopards, elephants and other wild animals, is because they have encroached on their habitat. When WILD animals attack humans, in their habitats, then they are clearly within their right and have been forced into this situation by humans. Same situation as those who are attacked by sharks whilst using the sea and then they claim the shark should be destroyed. How moronic.

If the Leopards are attacking humans then they need to be killed! Not nice but its better to save a human than save a leopard!!

Post #1 is right, in my opinion.

The animals have a right to their own environment. It's up to the Indian authorities to make sure the animals are captured and released further away from urban areas and villages. C'mon, it's common sense: we can't just go about killing endangered species just cos they get a bit too close!

Feel sorry for the leopard AND the villagers. Couldn't disagree more with Media 1 (as usual). Let's rescue the big cats ain issue one to each Edinburgh ambulance/fire engine. Two birds with one stone.
