Fry predicts a major event will rock President Obama

PRESIDENT Barack Obama will be rocked by a major event as big as the 9/11 terrorist atrocity during his period in power, author and TV star Stephen Fry predicted yesterday.
Raconteur Fry, 51, was holding court in an hour-long session on the theme of America at the Hay Festival of Literature, in Mid Wales.

His talk took the form of a celebration of the US, but he warned that, despite worldwide jubilation at Mr Obama's election, it would all end in failure.

The writer, broadcaster and comedian visited all of 50 states of of the US in his BBC TV show called Stephen Fry in America last year.

Yesterday, he sang Mr Obama's praises and said his election had "reminded us that there is an upside to America."

But he warned a huge sell-out crowd at the festival: "All politics ends in failure. I have met many retired politicians and they are all unhappy and bitter."

Of Mr Obama, Fry predicted: "If he has two terms I do not think the second term will end on an up. He has got a lot of credit, but he will go through it in the end. Nobody can know what will happen in the future.

"Who could have foreseen 9/11? Something will happen like that. Something that you cannot imagine."

It takes a lot of events, conflicts, hard learned lessons, etc in a person's life to develop character and wisdom that prepares a person for the strength and judgment needed in crisis.

Obama is far too naive, too young, far too untested, and far too shallow in wisdom and experience to handle Iran, Pokistan, and N. Korea with loose nukes.
The kid needed another 20 years to learn, mature, develop into a leader

Gee,ya think? How about an economy in the dumps, two wars,businesses falling like paralised sparrows? And,oh, on top of that,some Terrorist orgs. gonna hit? Wow,who'd have figured? No Poop,Sherlock. It's not if,but when.The question is really,how to respond after-Do we "Cowboy" it,or do we go for real international support?(Ya hear me,China?) Postit?

Carolyn,remember Memorial Day,here in the states.How many of the soldiers,marines and sailors do you think had prior experiance? They, with millions of others from so many different countries,all pretty much learned on the job. Did they get that job done? Depends on what YOU believe the job is. Me? As a vet, I think the job never ends,it just keeps getting passed down,father to son.Obama's doing the best he can,with what he was left.

Taking orders from a captain or a sergeant, and after going through a grueling basic training is far different from never being in the service or basic training but waking up on Tuesday and being Commander and Chief of the armed forces.

His lack of experience in making decisions scares the bejeezus out of me.

SO far all he's done is extend Bush's foreign policy, or stall...
either way I wouldn't call it making a decision.

He's giving Iran until the end of the year to come to the bargaining table?
What kind of 'decision' is that?

Posty, see if you can hold of a book called "The Coming China Wars" by Peter Navarro actualy it's Professor Peter Navarro. Professor of Economics
and Public Policy at the university of The Paul Merage School of Business University of California. The guy has no axe to grind and the book is a real eye opener. It's nothing to do with the military though one could be forgiven for thinking so because of the title. Rather the book is about economics. See if you can get a hold of it it's a very interesting book.

I never wanted Bush as my President, but right now I would give my eye teeth to have him back, for one reason only, and that is the feeling of security. Obama plain scares me, period. He just does not have the experience or know-how, to run this country.
He has no military experince, as this is an intregal part of the country's defense, and it is military might that keeps us safe, to some extent, from the ambitions of other militaristic countries.

Bush ran with Cheney as Veep;
Cheney was Secretary of Defense under Bush Sr. - when Cheney managed the defense department he reduced the military budgets and downsized the military because the Cold War was "over"

Exactly.
It's scary to wake up every day, open the Drudge Report and see home-grown terrorists blowing up a synagogue (which the President failed to mention), then the reports of Iran being months away from nuclear bombs (but the President gives him till the end of the year to negotiate), and then N. Korea sends off another missile...

We're in serious trouble. I used to worry what kind of planet I'd leave my daughter, now I wonder if there will even be one.

As for a nuclear attack, It's not if anymore, but when and where.

Reagan helped bring the wall to come down, but did not cause it to come down. Dry rot was in progress, and Gorbachev made sure that when it came down it did so without a war. When Reagan started making agreements with Gorbachev the right wing people called him a useful idiot for Soviet propaganda.

Of course something will happen in eight years. We just don't know how serious it will be. I remember a radio commercial with the economist Ellio Janeway. The announcer asked, "Tell me, Professor Janeway, will the market go up, or down?" Janeway replied dramatically, "Yes! But not right away."

This is that sort of prediction. But I predict Obama will do better than you would expect, because he has wisdom beyond his experience. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy once said that the three r's of law school are reasoning, research, and rhetoric. Obama has mastered these and for this reason he will do well in any situation.
