Competitors catch up on Speedo suits

SEVERAL new high-tech swimsuits have been approved to compete with Speedo's record-breaking LZR Racer at the Beijing Olympics.
New bodysuits from Arena, Adidas and Mizuno were all given the go-ahead by swimming governing body FINA in an extraordinary meeting.
Since the Speedo LZR Racer was introduced in mid-February, swimmers wearing the suit have set 37 world records and rekindled the debate over whether technology has too much influence over the sport.
The Italian team, which is sponsored by Arena, said its swimmers who have already qualified for the Olympics will have the option to test the company's new Powerskin R-Revolution+ suit at this weekend's Seven Hills meet in Rome. However, those who have not qualified will have to wear old suits.
