A CAMPAIGN has been launched to create a cycle path between Leith and Portobello.
Spearheaded by environmental organisation Greener Leith, the campaign has already won the support of local councillors. The group also has endorsements from cycling group Spokes and cycle track designers Sustrans.

The organisation, which meets tonight, hopes to have a council report ready which will make recommendations on how a future route between the two communities would work.

A spokesman for Greener Leith said the support from elsewhere had delivered a terrific boost.

He said: "As well as gathering support from councillors Maureen Child, Gordon Munro and Louise Lang, it transpires we are not the only ones to have noticed how near we are from having a good quality usable cycle link between Leith and Portobello.

"Spokes are keen to support our campaign and we're delighted to announce that they've pledged £200 to support signage on the route, if we manage to improve the access ramps at the Leith Links end, and at the Seafield end."
