CAPITAL schoolboy Callum Skinner will be back in the saddle tonight for the latest round of the Meadowbank National Track Cycling League at the same venue where he underlined his potential to become a future star of the sport.
The 15-year-old James Gillespie High School pupil chalked up an outstanding performance at the DHL Edinburgh Grand Prix on Saturday when he was the fourth fastest qualifier, beating several more fancied senior riders, including three full-timers from
the Netherlands.

And he produced an even better effort on Sunday when he linked up with 16-year-olds Kevin Stewart and Jamie Bremner, both from Dundee, to form a trio that is already being mentioned as a potential squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after winning the international team sprint challenge.

Skinner's main objective for the season is a good performance at the British Track Championships in Wales in August and he was delighted that his results over the weekend confirmed he is firmly on course.

"We had a target time and I managed to achieve that, so that was pleasing," he said, before underlining the experience he gained from racing in such esteemed company when he added: "That's the first time I've raced against international riders – it was good to see their strengths and weaknesses.

"It's interesting to see the Dutch riders in action because they have such amazing acceleration."
